I am interested in trees, rivers, ponds, insects, birds; everything that lives in certain places near to me that I feel drawn to by their mystery. Now I am exploring the genius loci (‘sense of place’) at Bentley Priory. Other places include Burnham Beeches and Hatfield Park. I am not interested in representing what I see. It is all about what I do not know and cannot understand. I listen to Schubert while working. I feel an affinity with his music, particularly the chamber music. I think he felt the same way as I do about nature. |
